BIO
Kirsten Callaghan is a British actress, singer, writer and producer. Whilst training at Rose Bruford College, Kirsten wrote and performed the one-woman show L'amour est Mort, based on the French folktale Bluebeard, which was chosen to be performed at the London Symposium Festival. Other theatre roles include Noel Olivier in Nick Baldock's historical play Verge of Strife and lead role, Lula, in Pussy, by BBC and Royal Court Young Writer's graduate, Thomas Clancy.
In 2019, Kirsten was cast as Mercedes Gleitze in feature Vindication Swim, a biopic about Gleitze, who became the first British woman to swim the English Channel in October, 1927. All of the swimming scenes were shot at sea and took three years to capture on film. Kirsten also worked as an executive producer on the film, with post-production taking place at Warner Bros. De Lane Lea. In 2022 Nicola Pearcey, former president of Lionsgate UK & Europe, joined the film as an executive producer with her new company Picnik Productions, alongside producer Sally Humphrey’s company Sea High Productions.
Vindication Swim hit the top 20 at the UK box office, showing in cinemas across the UK, Ireland and Malta. It ranked in the top 10 on Apple TV's pre-orders before its digital release in June and is now number 1 on Sky's Hidden Gems. Screen Daily praised it as one of the 'top UK buzz titles' at Cannes 2024.
